Combining the breakneck speed of inline skating and the raw aggression of wrestling, Rollerjam is the world’s most high-octane sports phenomenon – and now it has come to Challenge!

A spectator sport based on formation roller-skating, the history of roller derby dates back to 1935 when it was first played as an endurance race. Enjoyed at both professional and amateur level before dropping off the sports radar in the late 1980s, roller derby began experiencing a massive grassroots revival in the early 21st century following a surge of interest spread over the internet. Traditionally a sport for both men and women, it has attracted a predominately female circuit during its current revival in urban centres across the US, where there are currently over 135 active leagues.

Now, as this gripping contact sport begins to spread across Europe - the London Roller Girls team were recently featured in a Time Out cover story - Challenge brings you all the fast-paced thrills and spills of the roller derby in Rollerjam! With its hot-wheeled pace and retro-styled gangs, enjoying Rollerjam is like watching Starlight Express while being beaten on by Sailor Joe biker chicks - and just as fun too!
